Travel plans? Make sure your plans include great skin care

Whether you’re taking a family vacation, or an exotic once-in-a-lifetime trip, there are a few things you need to prepare for ahead of time. Most have to do with the logistics of the vacation itself (itinerary, packing, etc.), but some time needs to be allocated for self care.

Travel, while usually about relaxing and making memories, can be stressful (even if only in the planning and “getting there” stages) – and it’s important to make sure you take care of yourself. One of the things that tends to suffer when we travel is our skin.

One word: hydration

If you do nothing else for your skin when you’re traveling, make sure it’s properly hydrated – before, during, and after your trip. Flying, especially, can really wreak havoc on your skin’s hydration levels due to the dry air in the cabin. But even buses and trains can have air-quality issues, so proper hydration is important.

Hydrate from the inside before you leave

Make sure you get enough water to keep you from feeling thirsty. If you’re thirsty, you’re already getting dehydrated. You don’t have to drink gallons of water, but you shouldn’t feel parched when starting your trip. And you should keep sipping while you travel.

Moisturize

Your body and your face will benefit from a healthy dose of moisture before you begin your travels. Use a good moisturizer that absorbs well, but doesn’t leave you feeling greasy, After all, you still want to feel comfortable. And don’t be afraid to take a facial mist or a sheet mask, or even just a travel-sized moisturizer with you on your plane, train, boat, or bus. If your skin begins to feel tight, add a little more moisture.

Skip the makeup

Yes, we all want to look our best when we get to our destination. But a full face of makeup isn’t likely to travel well – especially on a long trip. Keep your skin dewy throughout your travels by staying hydrated – both inside and out. If “bare faced” isn’t the look you want to present at your destination, take a few essentials – maybe a mascara, a bronzer, and a lipstick – in your carry-on, so that you can give yourself a little boost before you disembark.

Don’t skip the sunscreen

If you’re going to be anywhere near a window, you’re going to be exposed to sunlight – unless you’re traveling strictly in the dark. Be prepared with a good SPF sunscreen to avoid damaging your skin both while you’re traveling and once you reach your destination.

You should also consider environmental protection, such as Reviva’s Ultra-Potency Purifying Antioxidant Serum, which can help protect your skin from harmful pollutants (smog, etc.) encountered in your travels. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid for a boost of hydration.

Rest, rest, rest

If you’re able to get some sleep – or even just some rest – it can go a long way toward keeping your skin looking fresh. Close your eyes and relax, and use an eye mask if you can. A cooling eye mask can help stave off dark circles and bags.

When you reach your destination

A gentle, refreshing cleanser can perk up your skin by removing any dirt or excess oil. Then you can apply fresh moisturizer, and any other cosmetics you wish. Just remember that, while you don’t have to pack up your entire medicine cabinet when you travel, your skin will look and feel its best if you continue your good skin care habits even while you’re away from home.
