Webinar by Reviva Labs recorded July 13, 2022 - Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen may be all you hear during the summertime. But we’ll talk about what else is important for keeping your skin looking and feeling its best as humidity rises and we all do more outdoors. And yeah, we’ll probably mention sunscreen too.
Long daylight hours coupled with hot, dry or humid weather can affect our skin much differently than colder winter days. Which skin care products work best for your skin type during the hot summer months? Let’s take a look:
Oily Skin
Oilier skins should be on the lookout for products formulated with salicylic acid, zinc oxide, activated charcoal and niacinamide. They’re all terrific for controlling oil, pesky breakouts and hyperpigmentation.
Fortunately, you can find these ingredients in some of Reviva’s best selling products:
- Coconut Charcoal Moisturizing Day Creme is formulated with activated charcoal to help detoxify skin and salicylic acid to help keep pores clear
- Problem Skin Mask uses natural clay and zinc oxide to absorb excess oil and draw out impurities.
And, since we perspire more during the summer, pay extra attention to washing along the outer edges of the face and your hairline. If not cleansed thoroughly, these overlooked areas will break out more easily.
Dry Skin
Even though it’s hot and humid, dry skin still needs moisture to keep its barrier strong. Look for products with ceramides and essential fatty acids to keep dry skin soft and supple without making your skin feel heavy or sticky.
Reviva Labs has the perfect moisturizer for dry skins this summer – Ultra Rich Ultra Light Daytime Moisturizer with Vit C. This aptly named product feels silky smooth and lightweight as it goes on but is rich enough in emollients to lock in moisture and keep skin hydrated.
Normal skin
To keep skin functioning normally and pores clear of summer grime and sweat, it’s essential to up your exfoliation game. We recommend using an exfoliator or exfoliating mask at least once or twice a week.
Bamboo Charcoal Exfoliating Mask is a very gentle exfoliating mask that deep cleanses and exfoliates to remove impurities and reveal healthy looking skin.
Sensitive skin
Since all the heat and humidity can aggravate skin that is already sensitive and red, look for products with soothing natural oils like hemp oil, and calming medicinal herbs like ashwagandha and turmeric.
Fortunately, you can find these helpful ingredients in Calming Renewal Serum & Calming Rejuvenation Creme. This dynamic duo will drench your skin in antioxidants and inflammation reducing compounds to soothe and nourish the skin.
Here’s a summer trick for all skin types – Keep our Rose Hibiscus Facial Mist in the refrigerator! One cool spritz of this delicious smelling mist and you’ll feel refreshed and energized.
Okay, so we can’t talk about summer skincare without mentioning Sunscreen. We know it’s the one skin care item that all skin types must use every summer so let’s review a few important tips:
- When possible, avoid direct sunlight from 10am to 4pm for outside activities when UV rays are most extreme. And, don’t forget your hat!
- Apply sunscreen on your hands. Skin on the back of your hands is one of the first areas to show aging. Since you’re probably wearing sandals more often, make sure to apply sunscreen on the tops of your feet too.
- There is very little difference between the protection offered by a SPF 15 and SPF 30. According to the American Academy of Dermatologists, SPF 15 deflects 93% of sun-burning rays, whereas SPF 30 deflects 97%. No matter which SPF you use, the most important thing to remember is to re-apply either it every two hours.
