Reviva believes taking care of your skin when you’re young means fewer skin care issues as you grow older. Regardless, each decade has its own set of challenges. So, let’s examine what to expect and how to adapt your skin care as you age.

In your 20s your skin has finally calmed down from those hormonal teen years. And, while pimples may still occasionally pop-up, skin is typically healthier looking and hopefully glowing.

In your 20’s the priority is to adopt or reinforce good skin care habits. Make sure you’re using a good cleanser and toner to remove dirt, oils, and makeup. Optionally use a mask weekly to relax while you deep cleanse and exfoliate.

20-somethings should also be thinking about ‘protecting’ their skin from future damage. Look for products with Vitamin C or Essential Fatty Acids that provide protection and hydration for the face and eye area.  And use sunscreen every day!

In your 30s is when you start to notice the signs of aging.  You’ll see fine lines around the eyes or mouth or maybe your skin tone looks dull.  Most of this is caused by past sun damage combined with decreased collagen production – as it starts to decline in your 20s.

Your core skincare routine should include products that contain antioxidants like Vitamin C & Vitamin E to provide increased environmental protection while they help correct early-stage damage and help brighten dull complexions.

Using products with Hyaluronic Acid maintains hydration and strengthens the skin’s moisture barrier. This helps soften fine lines and plumps up the skin.

Retinol, or its natural alternative Bakuchiol, should also become part of your routine. These ingredients help increase cell turnover which helps skin appear smoother and more radiant.

In your 40s skin goes through some major changes. There is a visible loss of elasticity that leads to sagging skin and more pronounced wrinkles. Sun damage accumulates causing uneven skin tone and rough texture. Skin also generally begins to suffer dryness.

Look for products that are formulated with Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, or Kojic Acid, these natural ingredients help diminish discoloration, encourage cell turnover, and improve the appearance of aging skin.

Adding moisturizers that contains Collagen, EFAs, or Peptides will help restore and enhance the skin. And perhaps add an eye product that offers both firming and brightening.

In your 50s and beyond skin continues to lose elasticity and can begin to thin. Hyperpigmentation and sun damage become more pronounced. And your skin’s natural moisturizing factors decrease leading to dryness, sensitivity, and redness.

For loss of elasticity seek out products featuring DMAE, Elastin, Collagen, and Peptides. Peptides are cosmeceutical ingredients that mimic skin’s natural components to correct or enhance your skin in so many ways.

For hydration, calming, and redness, nourish your skin with oils rich in essential fatty acids like Rosehip, Grapeseed, Seabuckthorn, or Hemp Oil.  And consider extracts like Shitake, Turmeric, Ashwagandha, and Manuka Honey

Plus, keep using or add in products featuring Retinol, Niacinamide and Vitamin C – followed by sunscreen, of course! Fortunately, Reviva is ready to help you attain healthy looking skin– at any age.  With nearly 50 years under our belt, we’ve helped countless generations of skin care users to keep their skin looking its absolute best!
