Webinar by Reviva Labs recorded November 16, 2022 - Skin care trends and fads gobbling up your budget? We’ll share with you the secret of layering skin care to amplify the results to super infuse the good stuff. We’re confident you’ll be giving thanks for your great looking skin.
Finding skin care products that really work for your skin can be frustrating – especially when there’s a new trend or fad every season that promises you the moon. Chasing every new ingredient or fad is not only disappointing but can be expensive.
While Reviva Labs closely follows what’s new and fun in the skincare category, we take a different approach to helping you find great looking skin. We believe that ‘layering’ one or two active ingredients can be better for your skin than shoving tons of active ingredients into just one trendy product. We found that by adding a specific active ingredient to a cleanser, a serum and a moisturizer that are applied one after another or, layered, allows your skin to better absorb the active. Plus, each product uses a different method for “penetrating” the skin so there’s a higher likelihood that the key ingredient will get to where it’s needed most. So rather than relying on one new, expensive product that’s formulated with a high percentage of actives, find a regimen that includes a smaller percentage of one or two key active ingredients. Layering a key ingredient is not only more efficient, it can produce better results.
So let’s take a step back. What exactly are ‘actives’ and why are they so important?
Active ingredients refer to skincare ingredients that are intended to improve a specific concern about the skin such as acne, anti-aging, hyperpigmentation or hydration. Active ingredients are found in all types of products including serums, cleansers, moisturizers and masks just to name a few.
Let’s review some of Reviva’s most popular active ingredients and the products they’re in so you can make the best choice for your skincare needs:
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid increases hydration and smoothes the texture of skin. This barrier-building ingredient is perfect for normal to drier skins but all skin types can benefit from using it. Reviva Labs is a big fan of hyaluronic acid. You’ll find it in most of our hydrating skin care collection.
- Hyaluronic Acid Serum
- High Potency Collagen Serum
- Intercell Hyaluronic Acid Day Creme
- Intercell Hyaluronic Acid Night Gel
- And many more products in our collection
Alpha Hydroxy Acids
Alpha hydroxy acids are primarily used to exfoliate the skin but they can also help promote collagen, diminish discoloration, prevent breakouts and increase product absorption. We recommend two different AHAs:
Glycolic acid, which is derived from sugar cane, is considered one of the most effective and gentle of the AHAs and is great for all your anti-aging needs. Layering with glycolic acid is simple at Reviva Labs. We have a complete regimen of products from cleansing to leave on moisturizer.
- Glycolic Acid Facial Cleanser
- Glycolic Acid Facial Toner
- Dark Spot Brightening Serum
- 10% Glycolic Acid Creme
Kojic Acid is another popular AHA. It’s derived from several species of fungi and like glycolic acid, it’ll help lighten and brighten skin, including helping with the appearance of age spots or acne scarring. It also helps inhibit the enzyme responsible for producing melanin in the skin which helps to prevent hyperpigmentation. Most of the products in our Brightening Category are formulated with Kojic Acid which makes layering super easy and effective.
- Dark Spot Brightening Serum
- Kojic Acid Brightening Creme
- Under Eye Dark Circle Serum
- Multifactor Brightening Creme
Niacinamide
Niacinamide is one of the must-have ingredients to look for in your skincare. Itprovides a multitude of benefits including helping the skin to retain moisture and regulate oil production, it minimizes the appearance of pores and diminishes redness, and it increases collagen production and helps treat hyperpigmentation. Fortunately, Reviva Labs includes niacinamide in four popular products:
- Dark Spot Darkening Serum
- Antioxidant Day Creme
- Multifactor Brightening Creme
- Under Eye Dark Circle Serum
The bottom line is that ‘more is better’ and it can even be cheaper but only if you find the right key ingredient for your skin and take a layered approach to your skin care.
