How does Hyaluronic Acid (HA) work? And why are some of Reviva’s HA products named “Intercell”?

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring polysaccharide found in the body, particularly in the skin, where it helps to retain moisture and keep the skin plump and hydrated. When used in skincare products, it can help to improve the overall appearance and health of the skin by attracting and retaining moisture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and helping to improve skin elasticity.

Hyaluronic acid is often used in moisturizers, serums, and other skincare products because of its ability to hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water. When applied to the skin, it can help to plump and hydrate the skin, making it appear smoother and more youthful. It can also help to improve skin elasticity, making it appear more firm and resilient.

Hyaluronic acid can be used on all skin types, including dry, oily, and sensitive skin. It is typically well-tolerated and considered safe for use.

It’s important to note that there are different forms of hyaluronic acid, such as low molecular weight (LMW) and high molecular weight (HMW) hyaluronic acid. LMW hyaluronic acid can penetrate deeper into the skin, providing more hydration, while HMW hyaluronic acid can provide a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, helping to lock in moisture.

How does Hyaluronic Acid work to benefit our skin?

Hyaluronic Acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles by retaining moisture against the skin and within the skin, creating a plumping effect. When the skin is protected and hydrated, it helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Properly, well hydrated skin also performs better overtime since it’s healthier it functions better.

Hyaluronic Acid molecules can hold up to 1000 times their weight in water, making them extremely effective at hydrating the skin and providing long-lasting moisture. Additionally, Hyaluronic Acid helps to reduce inflammation and promote wound healing, making it a great ingredient to use for all skin types.

Why Intercell?

In 1986, Reviva Labs was the first skin care company to introduce skin care products containing Hyaluronic Acid into health food stores. Reviva’s research had shown that Hyaluronic Acid is an “intercellular gel” between and around each skin cell. Since Hyaluronic Acid was a relatively unknown ingredient in skin care at the time, it seemed that focusing on the “intercellular” nature of the gel was a good idea. However, since people have become more aware and informed of the benefits of Hyaluronic Acid, we now refer to this on our packaging as well (while still keeping the Intercell name on some of our original products).

Hyaluronic Acid is a powerful ingredient for skin moisture

When treating dry skin, skin care professionals (aestheticians) look to hyaluronic acid. Keeping your skin moisturized is one of the most important steps in keeping your skin healthy and looking its best. And hyaluronic acid is a key ingredient for skin moisture. Topically, hyaluronic acid can absorb quickly and add much-needed moisture to the skin. And it makes an excellent catalyst for other types of anti-aging and moisturizing products and ingredients. Dermatologists use an injectable form of Hyaluronic Acid (Restylane) to replace lost moisture and plump up skin tissue to fill in lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin – and sometimes even to reduce the appearance of scars – giving skin a softer, smoother texture. If you’re looking to boost your skin’s moisture, hyaluronic acid (as a stand-alone serum or as a component of a moisturizer) is a great place to start!
