Phenethyl Alcohol is a colorless liquid which is used in minute amounts to mask the pungent smell of other components in cosmetics and personal care products. It gives off a pleasing rose-like aroma and is present in rose, neroli and geranium essential oils. In addition, it has antimicrobial properties which enhance the effectiveness of preservatives. This alcohol is incorporated in cosmetics and personal care items to impede or retard bacterial growth and thereby protect them from decay. Also, it adds a pleasant fragrance to the product.
