Fatty Acids are significant components in cosmetics, particularly triglycerides (TGs) which contain the fatty acids linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). These are important for skincare, as the oils which are higher in omega-6 and omega-3 can prevent eczema. These substances make up the cell membrane, and control which molecules can pass through, which is necessary for cell health and improving the appearance of the skin. They are most often used as an emollient or an emulsifier, helping to keep skin hydrated by sealing in moisture and reducing evaporation, as well as providing a thickening agent for skincare products.
