Are Reviva Labs products vegan?

We’re asked this question a lot and the answer is… yes – somewhat – but also no. So let us be clear; Reviva Labs has never been – nor have we ever attempted to be – certified as a vegan skin care line. We don’t present or sell ourselves as vegan. It’s simply not one of our founding principles.

However, since our inception in 1973, we’ve endeavored to be a cruelty-free brand – long before it was trendy. We’re big animal lovers and so we’ve never tested on animals and we choose suppliers who share our philosophy. And this naturally leans us to be “vegan-ish” with our skin care.

Animal-Friendly leans towards vegan-like skin care

We choose our ingredients very carefully and this means a lot of our products, while not certified vegan by a third-party, would likely meet the guidelines to be vegan. We make very conscientious selections when formulating our products. For example, our glycerin is vegetable based, our squalane is from olives, and the allantoin we use is derived from the comfrey plant or it’s synthetic.

Why don’t we become vegan certified?

Over the years, this has been discussed endlessly. If we’re so close to being vegan, why not simply become a vegan brand? And the answer is simple; it’s not what Reviva Labs is all about. Our brand was created to be a functional treatment skin care line. And that means embracing unique and newer ingredients. Restricting our choices to only vegan-appropriate ingredients would mean sacrificing too much of what makes Reviva Labs’ skin care so effective.

There are many fine vegan-only brands on the market and we’ll admit to consumers that if they’re looking for a strictly vegan selection of skin care that we’re likely not the product line for you.

Yes, you will find beeswax, lanolin, collagen, elastin, and some other animal derived ingredients in a few of our products. We do work with vendors that ensure our beeswax and lanolin are gathered humanely and sustainably – but we understand that might not be enough for some. Similarly, our use of collagen and elastin may not be acceptable to some consumers. We hope you choose Reviva Labs’ natural skin care. But if you’re looking for vegan-only products, then we’re probably not a good fit. That said, we have tried to identify our products that would likely meet or exceed the criteria for being vegan. Simply look for this symbol which indicates our vegan quality products.
